Candle Making

A Children's Centre December tradition is candle making.
Hot wax just off the wood stove, cold water and a piece of string managed by a young child, a few candle making sessions later and the result is this beautiful handmade candle.

The children immerse themselves in the task at hand. Dip in hot wax, dip in cold water, repeat. Occasionally the string gets repeated dips in the wax and the cold water is forgotten. This is when a teacher will help with a gentle reminder, "Don't forget the water dip",  a brief demonstration and  the child's dipping recommences.
This tradition speaks loudly to our belief that children are capable.
They wrap these beautiful works of art  and bring them home with pride.
