Bean Exploration

Gardening is a big part of our program throughout the year. One way in which the children experience the beauty and excitement of watching things grow is during our bean exploration. This has become a tradition here and one that is begun each year with the beans from the previous years crop. The beans are begun on our kitchen window in ziplock bags. As the children observe changes they are encouraged to document their observations by drawing them or representing them with plasticine. Once the beans are big enough, the children plant them around the bamboo teepee creating a cool, leafy teepee for those hot summer days.
