About Lise

I was raised in the 60's and 70's in a small town north of Quebec City. Life was simple, you roamed around in the countryside and came in when starving, frozen or both!
I was 15 when I first heard of a profession called Early Childhood Education, right then, I decided: "That's what I want to do when I grow up." Only one college in Quebec offered a french E.C.E program, due to distance and a huge wait list I opted to study in Special Education at College de Jonquiere. The next few years saw me studying in Quebec and working as a deckhand on a family salmon troller in British Columbia, fishing mostly in spectacular Haida Gwaii. Eventually, in 1983 I landed on Quadra Island and knew I was home, especially when my husband came into the picture a year later! In 1987 we were expecting our daughter, my English was much stronger and I felt the courage to return to my first aspiration; to become a certified Early Childhood Educator.
While enrolled in the part time E.C.E. program at North Island College, I was fortunate to raise my two pre-schoolers (our
second child been a boy) while operating a family childcare service in my home. It is also during these years that I was invited to sit on the Board of Director’s at the Quadra Children Centre, a position that I held for more than two years and that would change my life. I felt the importance of quality childcare and was proud in 1994, to become a staff member of the Quadra Children’s Centre after completing my last practicum. My journey as an Early Childhood Educator as been one of constant evolution, both as a person and as a professional and this I owe to the amazing leadership and commitment of my colleagues. Over more than 20 years in the E.C.E. field, my greatest reward remains constant, it is to feel in my heart that I make a difference in a child's life and to their family.
In 2010 my passion for personal growth has drawn me to study for two years in Vancouver and Oregon a therapy method called: Hakomi. Although not directly connected to the early care and learning field, what I learn in Hakomi has made me a much more compassionate being and I am grateful for that. When not at the Centre I might be found on a walkabout in Peru or Spain or boating with my husband while silently dreaming my next adventure...
