About Cally

I was born in the summer of 1977 in Winnipeg Manitoba where I was raised throughout the 80’s and 90’s. I fled the blustery winters of the prairies in February of 1996 and landed here on Quadra Island where I have since made my home and am now raising my own family.
Once completing my high school diploma at Carhi Secondary in 1998, I began studying at North Island College focussing in Women’s Studies, Anthropology and Psychology with the intent always to work as a professional in early care and learning. For as long as I can remember I have had a natural connection with young children. I began caring for children casually at age 11 and have accepted this job over any other as a livelihood ever since. After the birth of my second child in 2007 I began caring for other young children in my home where I built a repertoire with many families in the community. I was very excited to apply for a position at the Quadra Children’s Centre in 2010. The program matched all of my values and beliefs in regards to early care and learning. I was honoured to be accepted and welcomed as a part of the amazing team of Early Childhood Educators. During my first 2.5 years at the centre I completed my ECE Diploma by means of online learning through Northern Lights College.
I was encouraged by my mentors at the Children’s Centre to become a member of the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia (ECEBC), a professional association for advancing early childhood education and educators. I soon became involved in the local Campbell River Branch of ECEBC first sitting on the executive as a student representative and later as the chair of the branch where I currently sit to this day. Advocating for children and families to have access to quality, affordable child care by valued and well compensated educated professionals has become a tireless passion of mine. My
position with ECEBC Campbell River has offered many opportunities to fulfill this passion such as promoting a $10 a Day ChildCare campaign, lobbying governments, attending and organizing advocacy and networking events, speaking to media, planning professional development opportunities and facilitating workshops.
When I am not working I enjoy spending time outdoors cycling, hiking, camping, swimming, fishing and
just being with my family.
